A Drama that Soothed the Loneliness of a Canadian Exchange Student
At the age of seven, Ahn Hyo-seop moved to Canada with his family. He was deeply immersed in movies and dramas from a young age, often watching them multiple times. The 2007 drama <the Original> was one of the works that captured his heart.
<The Original> After being exposed to various Korean dramas, he naturally nurtured a dream of becoming an actor. Then, he was scouted by a major agency on the street which led him to prepare to become an entertainer. Despite his parents’ strong opposition, Ahn Hyo-seop embarked on a journey back to Korea alone at the age of 17. He made his debut in the 2015 drama <Splash Splash LOVE> as ‘Chea-jik,’ a character with an extraordinary brain. He gained recognition and honed his acting skills by appearing in three dramas as a supporting actor in 2016 alone.
In the drama <Happy Ending Once Again>, he received love from viewers as ‘An Jeong-woo,’ a younger man who is straightforward with his older girlfriend. He also received critical acclaim for his portrayal of the silent part-timer ‘Choi Cheol-su’ in the drama <When One’s Home is Happy>.
Two Consecutive Years as a Rising Star, a Trendy Newcomer
Ahn Hyo-seop rose to stardom as ‘Park Cheol-su’ in the 2017 drama <My Father is Strange>, earning the title of a likable character specialist actor with his handsome looks and refreshing personality.
That year, Ahn Hyo-seop won the Best New Actor Award at the Asia Artist Awards. In 2018, he played the role of ‘Yu Chan,’ the ace of Taesan High School’s rowing team, in the drama <Thrity But Seventeen>.
He also became the epitome of ‘second lead syndrome’ as the reliable ally of ‘Woo Seo-ri,’ who aged 30 years overnight, and ‘Gong Woo-jin,’ the main character. Ahn Hyo-seop expanded his horizons as an actor by winning the Best New Actor Award at the SBS Drama Awards.
In 2019, he showed sweet chemistry with Park Bo-young in his first leading role in the drama <Abyss>. In 2020, he entered his prime as the lead in the drama <Dr. Romantic 2>.
Ahn Hyo-seop played the role of ‘Seo Woo-jin,’ a second-year surgical fellow. His outstanding acting skills earned him critical acclaim, and he won the Best New Actor Award in the TV category at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
Last year, he starred in the drama <The Uncanny Counter> with Kim Se-jung, who has shown outstanding acting skills, and also appeared in the drama <Business Proposal>.
The chemistry with Kim Se-jung gained word-of-mouth popularity, and despite initial low ratings, the drama gained immense popularity. It was also simultaneously broadcast on Netflix, achieving high ratings among Korean dramas at the time and establishing his global fan base.
In June, he appeared in <Romantic Dr. 3>, and in September, he starred in the Korean remake of the popular Taiwanese drama <Someday or One Day>, <A Time Called You>, and matched breaths with Jeon Yeo-bin. Despite playing two roles in <A Time Called You> he managed to pull off both characters seamlessly.
