NewJeans ‘Cookie’ Hits 200 Million Streams on Spotify

NewJeans’ debut song, “Cookie,” has surpassed 200 million streams on Spotify.

According to Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform, on the 26th, “Cookie,” one of the triple lead songs from NewJeans’ (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, and Hyein) debut album *New Jeans* had been played 206,041,197 times as of the 24th. This is NewJeans’ sixth song to reach 200 million streams.

“Cookie,” released in August 2022, is a catchy song with minimal hip-hop beats, popping sounds, and cute lyrics. The New York Times named the song one of the “Best Songs of 2022,” praising it as “‘Cookie’ is the song that sticks out the most as it’s cozy without being overbearing.”

NewJeans’ songs, which are loved consistently regardless of whether they are new or previous works, are steadily increasing their play counts on Spotify. So far, NewJeans has produced a total of 10 songs with over 100 million streams on Spotify. “OMG” and “Ditto” have over 500 million plays each, “Super Shy” and “Hype Boy” have over 400 million plays each, “Attention” has over 300 million plays, “Cookie” has over 200 million plays, and “Hurt,” “New Jeans,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You” have over 100 million plays each. The total number of Spotify streams for all of their songs so far is over 3.5 billion.

Meanwhile, NewJeans is set to receive the “Group of the Year” award at the “2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards” on March 6th (local time). The “Billboard Women in Music Awards” is an award ceremony that selects and awards the top female artists, creators, producers, and executives who have had a significant impact on the music industry in the year. NewJeans will be the first K-pop female artist to receive this category award at this ceremony.
