‘Minors,’ Award-Winning Drama Series Under Fire for Abusive Content, Here’s Why

The school violence drama Minors, known as the “Second Park Hwa-young,” has been deemed unfit for broadcast.

The independent film Minors was scheduled for exclusive broadcast on EnterTV. Still, according to reports, the broadcast was canceled due to its extremely high level of explicit content.

In response, the Minors production team announced that they would not release a broadcast version but instead plan to release the full and uncut movie version.

The directors of Minors, which was a hot topic before its broadcast, once produced a drama series based on a true story after they repeatedly visited a juvenile detention center and interviewed teenagers, then wrote the script.

While this drama series captured the harsh realities of teenagers being forced into prostitution and violence, it also included warm scenes between students and teachers. However, the drama was still deemed unfit for broadcast.

The production company said, “We had a lot of affection for this drama, which was produced with a minimal budget and was intended to give opportunities to new actors.”

They added, “Of course, the actors put in a lot of effort, and the drama turned out relatively well thanks to the help of senior actors who debuted late. It’s very disappointing that it was deemed unfit for broadcast standards, but we plan to release the full version through an OTT platform.”

Meanwhile, Minors won numerous awards for best series and best director at many international TV series awards, garnering significant popularity overseas.

A remake of the film is scheduled for production in the U.S. in April.
