Seventeen’s tenth mini-album “FML” soars to #1, becoming the best-selling album worldwide in 2023.
The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) unveiled its 2023 Global Album Chart on February 27, revealing Seventeen’s “FML” as the year’s global best-selling album. The K-POP group’s feat surpasses acclaimed releases like “One Thing At A Time” by American country star Morgan Wallen (#3) and “Midnights” by global pop icon Taylor Swift (#4).
After entering the 2022 Global Album Chart Top 10 with their 4th full-length album “Face the Sun” at #7, Seventeen conquered the charts just one year later with their mini-album “FML”. This impressive feat wasn’t their only accomplishment, as their album “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN” landed at #8 last year.
The Global Album Chart released by the IFPI represents over 8,000 record companies worldwide and ranks songs based on factors like sales, streaming, downloads, and other metrics, offering a snapshot of the year’s top hits globally.
Seventeen broke records and soared past 16 million cumulative album sales in 2023 with their mini-albums “FML” and “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN”. Notably, “FML” shattered the record for the highest-selling K-POP album ever, reaching a staggering 6.27 million copies, while “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN” made history as the first K-POP album to surpass 5 million sales within its debut week.
“Seventeen’s “FML” is the recipient of this year’s IFPI Global Album Award, a testament to its remarkable global success,” declared Louis Morrison, Director of IFPI Global Charts. He further commended the group, stating, “Seventeen continues to push boundaries with their unique concepts, captivating performances, and undeniable talent.”
In addition to Seventeen making it to the IFPI Top 10 Global Album Chart, Stray Kids “★★★★★ (Five Star)” ranked at #2, “樂-STAR (Rockstar)” placed #9, and NCT Dream’s “ISTJ” placed #6.
