A new era of science fiction movies, once a minor movie genre that didn’t receive much attention, is now emerging. Recent releases such as “Dune: Part 2” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” are proof that science fiction films are loved by people worldwide. Let’s take a close look at some of the science fiction films that have been loved for a long time.
1. Children of Men
This movie delicately paints a world engulfed in chaos and violence and emotionally portrays the journey for human survival and hope. The film begins in a setting where humanity is on the brink of extinction as women can no longer give birth due to unknown reasons. In a world where the state and government systems have collapsed and everywhere has turned into a lawless zone, the protagonists desperately try to protect a refugee who miraculously became pregnant. The arduous journey of the protagonists trying to protect the refugee, the world’s last hope in a harsh situation, is “touching” and so much more.
2. The Host
An unidentified creature appears in the peaceful Han River, destroying everyone’s daily life. What if the worst situation that everyone wants to avoid happens to my family? This film features the desperate journey of people who risk everything to save someone caught by the monster despite not knowing whether they are alive or dead.
3. Under the Skin
What does it mean to become a human? It’s a deep question, but after watching “Under the Skin,” you may be able to find your answer. The message the film wants to convey is profound, but the movie is not didactic at all. The movie’s protagonist is an alien who has borrowed a human body. This alien constantly asks the audience questions while seeking answers about humanity and whether becoming a human is a sin or a blessing.

5. Everything Everywhere All at Once
Life is a series of choices. Through choices, a person decides what kind of person they will be and what kind of life they will lead. Of course, regrets follow choices. If you’re curious whether you would’ve achieved better results if your past self had made a different choice, the answer is in the movie. It’s okay to choose to give up when faced with numerous options. This movie will tell those who want to live their own lives but have lost their direction why it’s okay to go in any direction.
6. High Life
This film tells the story of a father who struggles to save his daughter on a spaceship full of prisoners serving life sentences or sentenced to death. All the prisoners voluntarily participated in the experiment but lost self-control in the isolated space. The prisoners eventually become blinded by desire and take their own lives, leaving only the father and daughter on the spaceship. The protagonist is reborn as a father, finding the actual value of life that he couldn’t find on Earth.
