The film Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to The Lion King, is gathering global anticipation and will meet audiences in December.

As a prequel to The Lion King (2019), the top-grossing Disney live-action movie and ranked ninth in global box office history, Mufasa: The Lion King has finally set its release for this December and unveiled a teaser poster and trailer.

Walt Disney Company Korea

Mufasa: The Lion King, which covers the past of Mufasa, the father of Simba and known as the great king in The Lion King, is a monumental film produced to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Disney’s animation The Lion King. Barry Jenkins, who won the 89th Academy Award for Best Picture with Moon Knight, directs the film. Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the previous The Lion King, has once again contributed to the screenplay, raising expectations for highly polished storytelling.

The released teaser poster captures viewers’ attention with a young, vulnerable lion cub, Mufasa, shivering with fear on a cold winter day with snow yet to melt. However, Mufasa’s reflection on the puddle beneath his feet exudes an overwhelming aura of strength, creating a surprising contrast. Words like loner, wanderer, and king of the world refer to Mufasa, hinting at the legendary and tumultuous story of his life that is about to unfold, amplifying curiosity.

The teaser trailer, also released, begins with the iconic “Circle of Life” song from The Lion King, sending chills down the spine of anyone listening and instantly immersing them in the film’s world. Following this, Mufasa appears on a snowy and icy mountain, captivating attention with his quiet yet profound presence.

The visuals and massive scale of Disney live-action, set to be showcased in 2024, fill the screen with breathtaking natural landscapes, from lush jungles to rocky deserts and mysterious underwater worlds. The film portrays the African savannah with stunning realism. The lifelike depictions of various creatures promise to deliver a powerful sense of immersion to audiences worldwide.

Additionally, the beloved character Rafiki, a long-time friend of Mufasa and mentor to Simba, unravels the story intriguingly, heightening curiosity about the epic narrative surrounding Mufasa that will be revealed in this film.

Mufasa: The Lion King features talented actors Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr., who gained critical acclaim for their fiery performances in the Disney+ original series Genius: Martin Luther King / Malcolm X, as Mufasa and his brother Taka (Scar), respectively, promising a perfect on-screen chemistry.

Additionally, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, who portrayed Timon and Pumbaa in The Lion King, along with John Kani as Rafiki, Donald Glover as Simba, and Beyoncé as Nala, will all be rejoining the cast, adding to the film’s chemistry. Mads Mikkelsen, Thandiwe Newton, and Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, complete the powerful casting lineup, promising a spectacular acting ensemble.
