The KIA Tigers cheerleaders from South Korea’s KBO League have recently captured global attention with their so-called Bikki Bikki Dance.

The New York Times published an article titled “Who Are The Korean Cheerleaders Flooding TikTok?” The piece highlights how the KIA Tigers’ “ultra-chill dance routine” has amassed millions of views on TikTok and other social media platforms, stressing its widespread appeal.

The “Bikki Bikki Dance” is a cheer routine performed by the KIA Tigers cheerleaders whenever a pitcher from their team strikes out an opposing batter. The routine features straightforward, energetic movement, with the cheerleaders raising their thumbs and swaying to the rhythm of drums and DJ scratches.

This dance has become a hit in South Korea and inspired a global trend, with people worldwide joining the “Bikki Bikki Challenge.”

A viral video shows KIA’s star cheerleader, Lee Ju Eun, casually touching up her makeup in the stands during a game. When a pitcher strikes out a batter, she spontaneously gets up and performs the dance, which has since gone viral on social media.

The New York Times reported that Lee Ju Eun’s video has taken social media by storm, attracting millions of views and widespread attention.

The Times noted that the understated movements of Korean cheerleaders offer a distinct charm compared to the elaborate, synchronized routines often seen with American football cheerleaders. The simplicity of the dance, particularly the act of raising two thumbs, makes it accessible and easy for anyone to join in.

Introduced by the KIA Tigers cheerleaders in 2022, the Bikki Bikki Dance has gained renewed attention amid the rising popularity of the KBO League. As the league experiences record-high attendance, interest in the cheerleaders has also surged.

In an interview with The New York Times, Dan Kurtz, who runs MyKBO, commented, “Korean professional baseball attracts young audiences with its affordable ticket prices and the freedom to bring your own food. Compared to Major League Baseball, Korean games have a rock concert vibe.”

He added, “The score isn’t the main focus in Korean baseball games. Fans come to sing, cheer, and soak up the vibrant atmosphere.”

While simple, the Bikki Bikki Dance captures Korean baseball cheer culture’s unique spirit and passion, resonating with fans worldwide.
