Amidst proving its artistic value by entering the international film market through prestigious film festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival, Locarno International Film Festival, and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, Smugglers has announced its release in Thailand, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Turkey, followed by Singapore on September 14th, India on September 15th, and North America, UK, Australia, and other countries worldwide in 2024. It has garnered attention as a film that must be experienced in theaters.

Smugglers have received explosive responses overseas, sold in most countries, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, North America, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and Spain.

With the enthusiastic response from audiences worldwide, it has demonstrated its presence as a global highly-anticipated film. Especially, Smugglers has drawn attention by securing a significant distribution contract in the North American market. XYZ Films, the distributor of Smugglers, is a production, investment, and distribution company established in 2008. It is a US production and distribution company that supports storytellers with visions from worldwide, mainly focusing on genre-driven films. Among them, the 2011 film The Raid: Redemption recorded a worldwide box office score of $14 million, gaining a reputation.

James Emanuel Shapiro, the representative of XYZ Films responsible for this deal, expressed his delight, saying, “Personally, I am a fan of director Ryoo Seung Wan, so I am thrilled to have concluded this deal. Smugglers is a very entertaining and stylish film, and I am confident that North American audiences will also fall in love with this movie.” Thus, Smugglers, prepared to meet audiences worldwide beyond South Korea, is expected to fill theaters worldwide with refreshing excitement.

The film Smugglers is a maritime crime drama that unfolds as a once-in-a-lifetime big gamble in front of people who make a living by salvaging essentials thrown into the sea. It stars Kim Hy Soo, Yum Jung Ah, Zo In Sung, Park Jung Min, Kim Jong Soo, and Go Min Si.
