The transport plane fell into the Tanana River, about 15 miles (approximately 24 kilometers) southwest of Fairbanks International Airport, around 10 AM KST (2 PM ET).

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that two people were aboard the crashed aircraft, and their conditions are yet to be confirmed.

The C-54 is a four-engine propeller aircraft, a military transport version of the Douglas DC-4 passenger plane from WWII. It is mainly used for short—and medium-range flights within 1200 to 2500 miles (2,000 to 4,000 kilometers).

The FAA announced that it plans to investigate the circumstances of the accident with the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC).
