Russian President Vladimir Putin assured North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that their cooperative relationship will continue into the new year.

According to the Korean Central Broadcasting Station, on Friday, Putin stated in his New Year’s congratulatory letter to Kim that the summit in Pyongyang last June elevated relations between Russia and North Korea to a new qualitative level.

He noted that the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership, signed after the talk, established conditions for substantially expanding mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation across all key sectors.

Putin expressed confidence that they will continue to work closely on joint projects to implement this historic treaty and further align their efforts to address contemporary threats and challenges in 2025.

He added that this undoubtedly serves the fundamental interests of the friendly peoples of the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Putin’s New Year’s letter received separate coverage and was featured on the front page of Rodong Sinmun. North Korea has previously reported Putin’s New Year greetings alongside those from other leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping, in an apparent attempt to showcase the North Korea-Russia cooperative relationship.
