Uber opened a Waymo robotaxi interest list in Austin, Texas, to begin a full-scale service.

Engadget said that Uber app users can now sign up for a Waymo robotaxi interest list in Austin, effective Wednesday (US time).

Although the service has not officially launched, operations will soon begin in the 37-square-mile Austin area, including downtown Hyde Park and Montopolis. Uber plans to expand its service area to include hundreds of self-vehicles in Austin and Atlanta in the coming years.

This service is a program designed to operate a robotaxi business as part of the collaboration between Waymo and Uber. Uber is currently working with about 14 self-driving companies, and since October last year, Waymo vehicles have been available on the Uber platform in Phoenix.

According to Uber, the fare for Waymo robotaxi is expected to be the same as UberX or Uber Comfort. Customers who register their interest this time will likely be matched first after the official service launch.
