Hyundai Mobis has garnered attention for developing new technology in the field of interior design. Building on the success of its groundbreaking rollable vehicle display introduced two years ago, the company has now unveiled a complementary moving speaker system. This advancement underscores Hyundai Mobis’ commitment to revolutionizing the mobility experience beyond traditional transportation.

On Wednesday, Hyundai Mobis announced the development of a rotating, moving speaker system that synchronizes with the movement of displays installed in the vehicle’s cockpit. This innovative technology aims to deliver optimal sound quality across various display configurations while showcasing Hyundai Mobis’ unique approach to interior design.

The newly developed moving speaker system is engineered to move as one with a variable (rollable) display. Two years ago, Hyundai Mobis pioneered the world’s first up-and-down moving vehicle rollable display, setting the stage for this latest innovation.

The new technology features a massive 30-inch screen that adapts its size based on driving conditions, providing users with navigation, entertainment, and other vital information. The moving speakers, strategically placed on the vehicle’s front right, left, and center, adjust their angles in sync with the display’s operation. This dynamic positioning minimizes ambient sound interference, resulting in optimized audio quality.

When the vehicle is in autonomous mode or stationary, Hyundai Mobis’ variable display expands to its full size, transforming the cabin into an immersive entertainment hub. At this point, the moving speakers lie down and direct the sound toward the vehicle’s windshield to avoid interference from the large display.

Conversely, while driving, the variable display contracts to one-third of its size to maintain clear forward visibility and show only essential driving information. The speakers then rotate toward the driver, ensuring crisp audio delivery. This adaptive positioning allows the system to provide optimal sound quality regardless of the display’s configuration.

Hyundai Mobis developed this technology in response to vehicle displays becoming larger, higher resolution, and slimmer as automakers look to differentiate their interiors. The moving speaker system, integrated with these displays, exemplifies this innovative new technology.

At this year’s CES, Hyundai Mobis showcased its groundbreaking Holographic Windshield Transparent Display technology, transforming the vehicle’s windshield into a screen without additional hardware. The company already boasts an impressive lineup of world-first innovations in the automotive display sector, including rollable, swivel, and QL displays.

Leveraging its technological expertise, Hyundai Mobis plans to continue introducing cutting-edge solutions that enhance user experience and improve mobility convenience in the automotive infotainment sector. The fusion of advanced display and sound system technologies exemplifies this commitment to innovation.

Han Young Hoon, head of Hyundai Mobis’ HMI Development Division, emphasized the company’s strategy, “We are targeting the market with innovative integrated products that showcase Hyundai Mobis’ unique brand value in the mobility sector.”
