We often refer to beautiful landscapes as “fairy-tale scenery.” This is because the landscapes in fairy tales are attractive, and many of these backgrounds are based on actual landscapes. There are beautiful landscapes all over the world that seem oddly familiar. Now, let’s dive into travel destinations that truly resemble scenes from a fairy tale.

Bangkok, Thailand’s Chocolate Village

In Bangkok, Thailand, there is a beautiful theme park. It is a Chocolate Ville, a theme park with old European-style buildings, a clock tower, New England lighthouses, and ducks swimming in the pond. Thailand’s CDC (Crystal Design Center) created it in 2011 with the theme of dining in the park at a restaurant called “Wine I Love You.” It opens from 4 PM to midnight.

Barcelona, Spain’s Casa Batlló

Casa Batlló is a building in Barcelona, Spain, designed by Antoni Gaudi. It is considered a work of art and was Registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Furthermore, music performances are held on the rooftop terrace so visitors can enjoy the beautiful landscape further.

Antrim County, Northern Ireland’s Dark Hedges

Dark Hedges in Northern Ireland is famous as a filming location for the HBO series Game of Thrones. It’s located in a small village near the Antrim Coast Road. This forest path, with intertwined beech trees, lined up on both sides of the road, forms a tunnel. Its mysterious atmosphere has earned it the nickname “Magic Forest Path.” The Northern Ireland Tourist Board designated it a tourist attraction in 1998.

Pasto, Colombia’s Las Lajas Cathedral

Colombia’s Las Lajas Cathedral is located on the outskirts of a small border town in the southwest. It is the only white Gothic-style cathedral in the world built between gorges. The cathedral is 328 feet tall from the bottom of the gorge. It’s a popular honeymoon destination for wedding photos, making it a fantastic tourist destination for romantic experiences with your loved ones.

Slovenia’s Lake Bled

Slovenia is home to a place known as the Pearl of the Julian Alps. Lake Bled was formed by the erosion of a glacier that melted from the perennial snow of the Julian Alps. The lake is 1.3 miles long and 0.87 miles wide. It’s a beautiful lake with a clear emerald color, attracting tourists globally. There also is a church of the Virgin Mary built in the 15th century on the lake. One of the myths is that if you ring the bell of love there, your love will last forever.

Sintra, Portugal’s Pena Palace

Sintra was highly praised by the British poet Byron as the “Glorious Eden.” The key tourist attraction here is the Pena Palace. It was left in ruins after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and was initially built as a monastery. In 1885, Ferdinand II, the husband of Queen Maria II, reconstructed it and used it as a summer villa for the royal family.

Romania’s Peleș Castle

Located in the resort town of Sinaia in Romania is the grand Peleș Castle. Although Sinaia is a small rural town, it’s always busy with tourists trying to see Peleș Castle. It blends Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo styles as it was a summer residence by Carol I. Centered around a central hall, it consists of 170 rooms, making it a sightseeing spot with plenty to see.

Zaandam, Netherlands’ Lego Village

Please check out the Lego Village when you visit the famous tourist spot in the Netherlands, Zaanse Schans. It is also known for its windmill village, just below Zaanse Schans. You’ll find colorful green and blue buildings decorated in square shapes. As buildings resemble Legos, people call this area the “Lego Village.” The “Intel Corporation Hotel'” in the town center is particularly famous, with a building made by stacking traditional Dutch houses one on top of another.

Malta’s Popeye Village

Malta is home to Popeye Village, a famous movie set location. Malta has been in numerous blockbuster movies, such as Gladiator, Troy, and Alexander. Popeye Village was the set for the 1980 movie Popeye, starring Robin Williams. There’s a site showing the process of Popeye production. The staff dressed as characters like Popeye and Olive hand out balloons, making it a Popeye theme park.

The Faroe Islands, a Danish Territory

The Faroe Islands are clusters of islands in the Atlantic UK, Iceland, and Norway. It became an autonomous territory of Denmark in 1948. Furthermore, the Faroe Islands are connected by underwater tunnels. With high mountains, beautiful sunsets, and a deep sea, it preserves the nature of the ancient world. In 2007, it was introduced as “the most beautiful island in the world” by National Geographic.
