A Japanese idol group’s latest release sparks controversy due to similarities with BTS’s work.

On February 25, Daily Gendai DIGITAL suggested similarities between Snow Man’s new single “LOVE TRIGGER/We’ll go together” and BTS’s hit, “Dynamite”.

The report alleges that the melody of Snow Man’s lyric “You are my LOVE TRIGGER” resembles the line “So I’mma light it up like dynamite” from BTS’s “Dynamite”. While the overall structure is similar, a notable difference lies in the ending: “TRIGGER” rises in pitch, while “Dynamite” falls.

The accusations have not gone unchallenged, with some expressing doubts about the similarities and others finding them unsubstantiated.

This is not the first time Snow Man stirred up controversy related to BTS. In December 2020, group member Ryohei Abe (30) shared in an interview, “I saw that BTS was number one on Billboard, but I think that Snow Man can get there as well.”

Several fans voiced criticism regarding the notion that simply “because BTS did it,” others have the right to do the same, suggesting it disregards individuality and effort

Snow Man’s single “LOVE TRIGGER/We’ll go together” achieved impressive first-week sales of approximately 1.193 million units. This marks the group’s highest first-week sales record, reportedly surpassing 1 million sales within just two days of release.

“Dynamite,” a vibrant retro pop song, was created by BTS to bring joy and uplift spirits during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The song dominated charts worldwide, becoming the first K-Pop single to reach No. 1 on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100, marking a historic achievement for the genre.
