BTS’ Jungkook Makes History As The First Korean Soloist in 11 Years on IFPI Global Singles Chart

joynews24 Views

BTS member Jungkook makes history as the first Korean soloist since PSY to rank in the Top 10 of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI)’s 2023 Global Singles Chart with his debut single “Seven.”

Jungkook’s debut solo single, “Seven (feat. Latto),” was released in July 2023 and landed at the 10th spot on the prestigious IFPI Global Singles Chart for 2023. The IFPI chart, which represents over 8,000 record companies worldwide, ranks songs based on factors like streaming, downloads, and other metrics, offering a snapshot of the year’s top hits globally.

“Seven” proved Jungkook’s status as a global pop star as he is the only Korean artist among chart-toppers like Miley Cyrus’s “Flower”, SZA’s “Kill Bill”, Harry Styles’s “As It Was”, and Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” on the IFPI Global Singles Chart.

Following PSY’s iconic “Gangnam Style” in 2012 and BTS’s chart-topping “Dynamite” and “Butter” in 2020 and 2021, Jungkook joins the IFPI Global Singles Chart as the first Korean soloist to land on the chart in 11 years, marking a historic achievement.

Jungkook’s “Seven” stormed onto the global scene upon its release last year, topping the US Billboard Hot 100 and reaching number three on the UK Singles Chart. It then shattered records on Spotify, the world’s leading music streaming platform, by amassing 1 billion streams in a record-breaking 108 days and securing the coveted fourth place on Spotify’s Wrapped 2023 Top 10 Songs Globally.

Beyond chart dominance, “Seven” garnered recognition at prestigious international music awards throughout 2023. The song claimed “Song of Summer” at the MTV Video Music Awards, “Best Song” at the MTV European Music Awards, and “Top Global K-Pop Song” at the Billboard Music Awards.
