The Russian government is launching a new project to increase the domestic birth rate and strengthen support for youth education.
According to KOTRA and other sources, on the 9th, Russia is planning to start five new national projects: △Family (aiming to increase birth rate and life expectancy) △, Russian Youth (aiming to better youth education) △, Active and Healthy Life (aiming to promote healthy lifestyle) △, Talent (aiming to create interaction between universities and companies) △, and Data Economy (aiming to build a comprehensive digital platform).
Under the family project, Russia plans to boost the birth rate by expanding tax benefits for multi-child households and pushing to modernize childcare facilities. According to the World Bank (WB), Russia’s fertility rate dropped from 1.8 in 2016 to 1.5 in 2021. Russia also plans to increase long-term care programs to increase life expectancy.
Further, Russia plans to promote career support for teenagers and improve the education system and educational infrastructure. To improve public health, it plans to review measures such as reducing alcohol consumption and smoking rates, developing sports facilities, and deducting taxes on health check-ups.
To foster talent, Russia will promote university students’ visits to companies, expand internship opportunities, and develop mentoring systems. To activate its data economy, it plans to focus on introducing artificial intelligence and resolving digital inequality.
