Kia’s EV9 Features V2L Technology to Create Artificial Sun in Norway

theguru Views

Kia’s flagship large electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) model, the “EV9,” has lit up the Nordic sky in place of the sun. Using the EV9’s representative V2L (Vehicle to Load) feature, Kia has showcased its brand’s electric vehicle technology while demonstrating its commitment to carbon neutrality.

According to industry sources, on the 12th, Kia recently conducted a unique project at the Rampton campsite in the Oslo fjord in Norway. Utilizing the V2L feature of the EV9, they lit up an artificial sun made from a 16.4 ft long LED billboard, enabling the nearby beach to be enjoyed from miles away for 24 hours. This region is one of the darkest places in the Nordic region. Through this project, Kia received praise for highlighting its electric vehicle technology and the importance and appreciation of the natural environment.

This project was conducted by collaborating with Innocean, which oversees Hyundai and Kia’s global marketing, and VOID STUDIO. These companies also proposed lighting an artificial sun based on the V2L feature. V2L refers to a technology that supplies AC power to electronic products using the power of an electric vehicle’s battery. Just like using electronic products by plugging a cord into a socket at home, you can operate electronic products outdoors using the internal power of an electric vehicle. As long as you have an electric car, you can supply electricity, enabling the use of heating appliances or lighting fixtures anywhere you want.

Kia plans to continuously lead innovation in electric mobility and prepare sustainable solutions for customers. David Hilbert, head of Kia Europe’s marketing, said, “The EV9 provides exciting experiences not only when moving but also when stopped through innovative features like V2L.” He emphasized, “Electric vehicles will play various roles in our lives in the future.”

Meanwhile, the EV9 won the overall victory at the ‘2023 Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY)’ on the 8th.
