A sandstorm originated from the Sahara Desert and swept across southern regions of Greece, including Athens.
On the 23rd (local time), Greek authorities issued a warning about the sandstorm that has been occurring in the Sahara Desert for several days.
Greece has been engulfed in dust since the end of March and the beginning of April, spreading to Switzerland and southern France.
The entire city of Greece turned orange due to the dust storm that occurred in the Sahara. Significant landmarks in Athens, Greece, including the Acropolis, were affected and turned orange.
Some have called this the worst dust storm to hit Greece. Kostas Lavarvardos, the head of meteorological research at the Athens Observatory, stated, “This is the most severe dust storm from the Sahara Desert since the Crete Island dust storm in March 2018.”
Greek authorities warned of respiratory risks due to the dust.
Meanwhile, the Greek Meteorological Agency predicted that the effects of the sandstorm would cease from the 24th.
