North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Russia Day.

Rodong Sinmun reported on June 12, “In his message, Kim sends warm congratulations and comradely greetings to the Russian federal government and its people on behalf of the people of North Korea on Russia Day. North Koreans are always pleased with the achievements being made in Russia, and send full support and solidarity to the Russian military and people who are devoted to justice and truth.”

Kim emphasized, “The invincible comradeship and the strategic relationship of a century-long plan, which was sublimated by a meaningful encounter at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in September last year, is constantly strengthening and developing into a higher level of national relations.”

Kim added, “We will actively contribute to realizing genuine international justice by strongly promoting the construction of a powerful nation in both countries and to the peace and security of the world”.

Russia Day commemorates the adoption of the national sovereignty declaration by the Russian Republic within the Soviet Union on June 12, 1990.

Meanwhile, in celebration of Russia Day, Russian Ambassador to North Korea Aleksandr Matsegora hosted a banquet at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Corps Club on June 11.

Minister for External Economic Relations Yun Jong Ho, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lim Chun Il, Vice Minister of National Defense Kim Min Seop, Vice Minister of Education Lee Chang Sik, Head of the Diplomatic Corps Business Bureau Kim Ik Hyung, and other key officials were among those in attendance at the banquet.
