Is the U.S. Pushing Towards World War? North Korea Thinks So

North Korea condemned Washington for allowing Ukraine to attack Russia, claiming that such actions would result in the worst outcomes or a new world war.

North Korea publicly declared its support for Russia, stating that it considers Russia’s future retaliation to be a rightful act of self-defense.

Park Jong Chon, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea, criticized the US in a statement released today through the Korean Central News Agency.

“If the US continues to urge Ukraine and their war machine to march towards the battlefield against Russia, it will inevitably provoke a stronger response from Russia,” Park said, adding that US action would only aggravate the regional security situation and could lead to a full-scale military confrontation with Russia, provoking a new world war.

Earlier on June 18, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was quoted as saying that “it would be reasonable for Ukraine to be allowed to launch counteroffensives against any Russian forces crossing its border.”

His remarks sent a message that Ukraine would be allowed to retaliate against any expected attack from Russia using American weapons.

Further, Pentagon spokesperson Air Force Major General Patrick Ryder stressed that the focus of the US (foreign defense) policy is to enable Ukraine to retaliate against Russian ground forces using US-provided military supplies if Russia fires across the border. He has also eased restrictions on Ukraine’s use of American war weapons.

While he maintained that there has been no change in policy, he further revealed that the use of American weapons by Ukraine against Russian forces was not restricted to the Russian territory near Ukraine’s Kharkiv.

In Feb 2022, when the Russia-Ukraine war erupted, the US delivered weapons to Ukraine. Still, we maintained a policy of prohibiting the use of American weapons for attacks on the Russian mainland due to concerns of escalation. However, as the situation worsened, US President Joe Biden in May approved the use of American weapons from Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, for counteroffensives on the Russian mainland.

The successive mentions by US officials represent additional measures following Biden’s approval.

Park pointed out that Washington has gradually expanded its support for Ukraine since the crisis, providing multiple rocket launchers, tanks, and depleted uranium ammunition, amounting to approximately $100 billion.

Particularly this year, as the situation turned unfavorably for Ukraine, the US further ramped up support, providing the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) missiles with a range of 300km, allowing attacks on areas up to 320 km within the Russian border.

“This time, the US has taken it a step further by loosening the reins, allowing Ukraine’s neo-Nazis to strike any Russian territory with the weapons they provided freely. This is nothing more than a futile attempt to drive Zelensky’s puppet regime into reckless attacks deep into Russian territory in a desperate bid to manage the worsening situation,” stated Park.

He also warned that the US, which has so far discouraged Ukraine’s expansion of attacks abroad and pledged no such support to make it possible, has now abandoned its hypocrisy and revealed its true intention of an extreme anti-Russian aggression campaign.

“Anybody who acts recklessly will be struck by lightning,” he added.

“Russia’s strategic retaliation to deal with the mounting threats from hostile forces is a legitimate act of self-defense for its national security, and whatever countermeasures it takes against Ukraine will be an act of justice.”

He declared, “We will always stand in solidarity with the Russian military and people fighting for a just cause to guard its national sovereignty, strategic stability, and territorial integrity.”
