On the final day of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit, President Joe Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy as Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the opening speech, Biden said, “Ladies and gentlemen — President Putin. President Putin.” The conference was held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
Biden immediately realized his mistake and corrected himself, saying, “He’s gonna beat President Putin, President Zelenskyy.”
Zelenskyy held the microphone with an awkward laugh. The attendees still managed to greet with laughter. Nonetheless, such an accident can be extremely rude as Ukraine and Russia are still in a dispute. Furthermore, this incident can negatively impact Biden, as he has been pressured to step down as a candidate due to recent debates over his cognitive abilities related to his age.
Biden held a press conference later in the day regarding his stance for re-election and emphasized his firm intention to run again.
