Russian President Vladimir Putin embarked on a two-day state visit to Azerbaijan. His move features significant events scheduled for the second day.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, Putin arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan’s capital, yesterday. Following his arrival, he proceeded to the residence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, where they held a joint dinner.

Putin will hold official talks with Aliyev to discuss the development of strategic partnerships and alliance relations between the two countries and international and regional issues. After the discussion, they plan to release a joint statement to explain the outcomes.

The Russian side has indicated that the talks will cover the relationship between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Russia has pledged to continue offering all necessary support to help normalize relations between the two countries.

Azerbaijan has experienced ongoing conflict with Armenian forces in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, including military clashes last fall.

Once part of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan declared independence following the collapse of the USSR in 1991. Since then, it has maintained ties with Russia through international organizations such as the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

During his visit, Putin is scheduled to participate in several official events, including a visit to the grave of Heydar Aliyev, the former President and father of the current President, Ilham Aliyev, to pay his respects.
