Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy slammed Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday for launching attacks on energy infrastructure during the Christmas holiday.

Zelenskyy denounced the strikes as “inhumane” but assured that they would not dampen the Christmas spirit.

Zelenskyy posted on X that Putin deliberately chose Christmas to launch attacks, questioning what could be more “inhumane.” He reported that over seventy missiles, including ballistic ones, and more than a hundred attack drones were used, targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in a campaign aimed at causing widespread blackouts across the country.

Fox News cited foreign reports. Russian Defense Ministry conducted a large-scale offensive against energy facilities supporting Ukraine’s defense industry.

Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the assault on the country’s fuel and energy resources involved seventy-eight air-, ground-, and sea-launched missiles, along with 106 Shahed and other types of drones.

Zelenskyy acknowledged that the attacks had caused power outages across several regions and stated that power engineers worked tirelessly to restore electricity as swiftly as possible.

While the U.S. has provided billions in aid to support Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion since 2022, Fox News noted that there’s a growing debate among Americans and lawmakers about continued assistance to Ukraine.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, set to take office on January 20, has advocated for a ceasefire and negotiations.

Trump claimed the following in a recent Truth Social post: “Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness.” He further stated that there have been unimaginable losses, including 400,000 soldiers and countless civilians, and declared that it is time for an immediate ceasefire and peace talks.
