The bald eagle, an iconic symbol of the United States, has been officially designated the national bird. According to CNN, President Joe Biden signed legislation on Tuesday establishing the bald eagle as the national bird. The bill was introduced in the Senate in July and passed unanimously before clearing the House in December.

Native to North America, the bald eagle has embodied American strength and resilience for over 240 years. With its distinctive white head, yellow beak, and brown body, the bald eagle’s image first appeared on the Great Seal of the United States in 1782. Since then, it has been prominently featured on various official documents, the presidential seal, military insignia, and U.S. currency. However, until now, it had never been officially designated as the national bird by law.

Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat from Minnesota, introduced the bill and commented that the bald eagle symbolizes the nation’s freedom and strength. She noted that with the passage of this law, the bald eagle will now be officially recognized as the national bird.
