6 Foods That Can Make You Sick When Eaten on an Empty Stomach

butterpopcorn Views

What I often ate for breakfast
turns out to be toxic if consumed in the morning?!

Do you eat breakfast regularly? I often find myself skipping breakfast. I’d rather sleep a bit more than eat, and I always get stomachaches whenever I eat in the morning. I know breakfast is important, but is there anyone with a sensitive stomach like mine?

I usually replace breakfast with fruits or cereal, but I heard some foods can be harmful when eaten on an empty stomach. As soon as I listened to that, I became curious about what these foods might be!

They say that what you eat for your health can be harmful, so I thought it would be good to find out and share this information with you.

Let’s find out what foods are harmful when consumed on an empty stomach!

1. Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are often eaten as a light breakfast or by those on a diet. However, consuming sweet potatoes on an empty stomach can cause heartburn. This is because the mucilage and tannin in sweet potatoes stimulate the stomach lining and promote gastric acid secretion.

Also, if you have diabetes, be careful, as consuming boiled or roasted sweet potatoes on an empty stomach can cause a rapid increase in blood sugar.

Therefore, if you’re fasting, eating potatoes instead of sweet potatoes is better. Potatoes help protect the stomach lining, so they don’t cause heartburn! Potatoes, rich in vitamins B and C, are said to have long-lasting effects when eaten on an empty stomach.

2. Banana

Bananas are also commonly eaten as a breakfast substitute, like sweet potatoes. Bananas contain about 48mg of magnesium, a relatively high amount. If you eat it on an empty stomach, the magnesium concentration in your blood can increase, disrupting the potassium balance in your blood vessels.

Bananas, which can cause this imbalance, can lead to indigestion when eaten on an empty stomach, and if you have low blood pressure, you should be especially careful when eating bananas on an empty stomach※

3. Cereal

Many of you eat cereal for breakfast, right? It’s quick and easy to eat in the busy morning. Just add milk. However, not all cereals are bad, but those high in sugar are not recommended to be eaten on an empty stomach.

The reason is that consumption can cause blood sugar levels to rise and fall rapidly. And the breakfast that is supposed to start the day strong can make you feel hungry quickly.

Therefore, if you’re going to eat cereal for breakfast, I recommend choosing one with low sugar content and supplemented with protein!

4. Milk

It’s okay to have with cereal, but drinking milk alone on an empty stomach is not recommended. This is because milk’s calcium and casein protein stimulate gastric acid secretion, irritate the stomach lining, and cause heartburn, and nutrients can easily be lost before absorption.

In particular, it can cause abdominal pain and diarrhea. Therefore, if you drink milk for breakfast, it’s better to consume it with bread, cereal, or nuts!

5. Coffee

Many of you drink coffee in the morning. However, morning coffee is not good! For 1-2 hours after waking up, a hormone called cortisol that awakens the body is secreted. Caffeine added at this time can cause excessive awakening, leading to symptoms such as heartburn and palpitations.

It can lead to indigestion and gastritis in severe cases, so I recommend drinking coffee after lunch.

6. Tangerine

Eating a tangerine on an empty stomach can cause excessive gastric acid secretion, leading to heartburn and damage to the gastric mucosa. This can lead to gastritis or esophagitis!

Tangerines and high-acid fruits like lemons and oranges can be toxic when consumed on an empty stomach, especially for sensitive stomachs. Please keep that in mind!

Today, I introduced foods that are not good to eat on an empty stomach in the morning. I was surprised to learn that common foods can be harmful when consumed on an empty stomach. We should be careful about what we eat when we’re fasting!

Many foods are beneficial when eaten on an empty stomach in the morning, so it might be good to look into them and try them out. I will return with more helpful information next time.
