The Jeonju Wansan Police Station reported on the 30th that they had apprehended a man in his 50s, Mr. A, who is under suspicion of attempted murder and is currently investigating him, according to Yonhap News.

According to reports, Mr. A is accused of assaulting a teenage girl, Ms. B, on the street in Pyeonghwa-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju, around 10 p.m. on the 28th. He repeatedly hit her face and body with a blunt weapon and choked her. A passerby who witnessed the scene immediately reported it to the police, who stopped Mr. A.

The police, who arrived at the scene, arrested Mr. A on the spot. Ms. B was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment, and fortunately, her life was not in danger.

According to the police investigation, Mr. A and Ms. B did not know each other. Mr. A came across Ms. B, who was on a phone call while walking down the street. He misinterpreted the conversation she was having with the other person on the phone as being directed at him.

Mr. A reportedly told the police, “I thought she was laughing at me, so I got upset.” He also revealed that he had picked up a blunt weapon that had been discarded on the street to carry out the assault.

After reviewing the CCTV footage around the crime scene, the police confirmed that Mr. A had indiscriminately assaulted Ms. B multiple times. They considered the nature of his crime to be severe and charged him with attempted murder.

A police official told News1, “We have applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.” They added, “We will do our best to protect the victim, as she may suffer psychological damage from this incident.”
