After four years, the Japanese Japan International Motor Show was held. The 2023 Japan Mobility Show, which began on the 26th, follows the industry trend from the traditional motor show to continue its history as a mobility show. It is one of the three major motor shows in the world and boasts the most enormous scale in terms of attendees, but it is also said to be centered around Japanese brands.

Hyundai Mobis was the only domestic brand to participate for the first time. Especially at this mobility show, various future-oriented cars, including different electric vehicles, were showcased by each brand. Among them, Toyota has sparked a buzz by unveiling the concept car of an electrified model pickup truck. The revealed features and overall concept have received many reviews for being fresh. Let’s take a look at what was unveiled.

Multipurpose pickup truck IMV 0 unveiled
Focused on usability in real-life

On the 25th, Toyota committed to developing a wider range of electric vehicles clear at the event. At the same time, they unveiled the concept car for the electric pickup truck IMV 0. This is a multipurpose pickup truck model that Toyota will soon launch. After showcasing various concepts in Indonesia last August, Toyota added to the anticipation by showcasing additional modified models at this show. They also emphasized that they will continue to develop new cars focusing on usability in consumers’ real lives.

At the Toyota booth set up at the event, the IMV 0, which was converted into a food truck, was displayed and operated. Beverages were provided to visitors at the mobility cafe, and games and events were held at the capsule bar. As seen at this event, the IMV 0 can convert a truck into various uses, such as a camper van or a food truck. It is also a model that can form the basis for such cars, and at the same time, it is expected to attract attention as a future multipurpose vehicle (PBV).

Similar to the Land Cruiser
Powertrain information is not disclosed

Looking at the front design of the unveiled concept car, it gives a bold and sturdy impression, similar to the Land Cruiser. The interior also appears well-designed, including an expanded cab. It also features sturdy tires, an off-road bumper with an LED bar and recovery points, and a roof rack for equipment transport. Notably, the tailgate at the rear opens 90 degrees, making loading more accessible, which is a strong point.

The size of the Toyota IMV 0 is 208.7 inches in length, 70.3 inches in width, 68.5 inches in height, and the wheelbase is 121.5 inches. This confirms that it is almost the same size as the existing Hilux and adopts the same wheelbase. Toyota has not yet disclosed the powertrain and detailed specifications of the IMV 0. It is expected to be launched in diesel, gasoline, and hybrid trims. Due to the body-on-frame structure of the IMV 0, it will likely not be released in an EV version.

High cost-effectiveness and diversity
Scheduled for release in 2025

Also, the IMV 0 is emerging as a cheaper alternative to the Hilux. Toyota has stated that it developed the IMV 0 to reduce the burden on consumers due to the increasing prices of pickup trucks and SUVs, highlighting the cost-effectiveness and customization possibilities of the IMV 0.

Finally, Toyota also released rendering images of the IMV 0, which can transform into a food truck, coffee bar, safari camper, and even a mountain rescue vehicle. Through this, they have shown infinite customization possibilities fitting the new era. The IMV 0, with its relatively affordable price range and various customization possibilities, is expected to be launched primarily in Asia in 2025, targeting emerging markets. If you’re an interested driver, it might be worth looking forward to the information about the IMV 0 that will be released soon.
