‘The Marvels’: Shortest Marvel Movie in the History, The Director Explains Why

Marvel Studios

The running time of The Marvels, which premieres today (8th), is 105 minutes, making it the shortest in Marvel Studios’ history.

Digital Spy, a foreign entertainment media outlet, unveiled the full interview with The Marvel’s director, Nia DaCosta, on the 6th (local time).

In the interview, DaCosta explained her decision for the shorter running time, saying, “I thought it would be really nice if it were less than two hours. In fact, I always think about the running time when making a movie,” adding, “An hour and 45 minutes is the average running time for a movie. We didn’t see the need for it to be longer, so we all had high expectations.”

The Marvels features a total of three female heroes, Captain Marvel (played by Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (played by Teyonah Parris), and Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan (played by Iman Vellani), who together overcome crises. Therefore, despite the short running time, a fast-paced plot is anticipated.

On the action of the female heroes, DaCosta said, “Marvel has really started to dig into scenes where women knock each other down,” adding, “There are a lot of fight scenes in this work. I enjoyed it because I like fight scenes. I was very excited. Especially, I’m very proud of the main fight scene. You can see something in that scene that you couldn’t see in the previous MCU.”

Meanwhile, The Marvels is a superhero action blockbuster where Captain Marvel, Monica Rambeau, and Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan inadvertently form a new team play as they fall into a crisis where their locations change every time Captain Marvel uses her powers.

In particular, it has been revealed that famous Korean actor Park Seo-jun will appear as Prince Yan, raising expectations among domestic fans.
