29 Years of Waiting Over: LG Twins Clinch Korean Series Championship

Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, calmly watched the victory ceremony of the LG Twins baseball players from the dugout. At the players’ beckoning, he walked towards the stage.

On the 13th, at the Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, the 5th match of the 2023 KBO Korean Series took place between KT wiz and LG Twins. LG, led by Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Kim Hyun-soo, among others, secured a 6-2 victory over KT, confirming their Korean Series win after 29 years and raising the championship trophy / Yonhap News

Chairman Koo, who exchanged congratulatory hugs and greetings with manager Yeom Kyung-yup, captain Oh Ji-hwan, and the front office, was handed a microphone.

On the 13th, at the Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, LG Twins completed a unified victory after 29 years. The wave of LG fans in yellow at the stadium chanted “Koo Kwang-mo.”

That day, in the 5th game of the Korean Series (KS), LG defeated KT  Wiz 6-2 and lifted the championship trophy with a series record of 4 wins and 1 loss.

Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, the ‘team owner’ who had been cheering for LG throughout the game wearing the ‘glossy jumper,’ a symbol of the LG Twins, looked around the Jamsil Stadium with a face full of emotion during the award ceremony and shouted, “Dear invincible LG Twins fans, who are the best in the world, LG Twins have finally won after 29 years!” The cheers from the fans also grew louder.

Taking a moment to pause, allowing the fans to release the emotions they had been holding in for 29 years, Chairman Koo said, “I sincerely thank all the LG fans who have waited for a long time, cheered, and loved us,” and “I also thank and congratulate our proud players and staff who have brought us the greatest emotions at every moment.”

He continued, “Today’s victory is a result of the efforts of everyone here and all those who love LG,” and added, “Enjoy the joy of victory. The 2023 champion is LG Twins. Invincible LG, fight on!”

Chairman Koo Kwang-mo also enjoyed the honor of lifting the championship trophy with manager Yeom, Oh Ji-hwan, and pitcher Lim Chan-gyu. He also shared heartfelt hugs with many players.

Chairman Koo, basking in the joy of being the team owner of LG, which won the championship after 29 years, left the ground after the award ceremony, giving the ‘stage’ to the players.

After putting down the microphone, Chairman Koo told the players, “You’ve worked hard and achieved great results, so enjoy to your heart’s content today.”
