It has been revealed that President Xi Jinping of China has stated at the US-China summit that there are no plans for military action against Taiwan in the coming years.
According to Reuters, a senior US official introduced on the 15th (local time) that President Xi said at a meeting in Woodside, near San Francisco, there are no plans for military action against Taiwan in the coming years.
In addition, President Xi told President Joe Biden of the United States that China prefers peaceful reunification with Taiwan. However, the official said, Xi also mentioned conditions under which force could be used.
This is interpreted as confirming the basic position that China is not preparing for a large-scale invasion or forcible reunification of Taiwan immediately. However, they can use force if Taiwan crosses the ‘red line,’ such as declaring independence.
At the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party last October, President Xi said, “We will uphold the vision of peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and effort, but we will never promise to give up the use of force and will have the option to take all necessary measures.”
