Reports have emerged that the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI), currently conducting an audit related to the relocation of the presidential office, has detected corruption allegations and requested an investigation from the prosecution.
JoongAng Ilbo reported on the 17th that “It has been confirmed that the BAI has requested an investigation from the prosecution on corruption charges such as loss of exchequer against a senior official of the Security Service, and a related person in the bulletproof glass construction company, in October last year.”
According to the BAI report, the senior official helped a company where his acquaintance works to secure a contract for installing bulletproof glass in the presidential office relocation project. The company, which won the contract through a negotiated agreement, is reported to have caused a loss of over $857,000 to the exchequer by submitting a false estimate that inflated the construction cost.
It is known that the BAI discovered signs of corruption in this process and requested an investigation from the prosecution. The media reported that the trial searched and seized the company in question in November last year and summoned related persons for investigation. He is known to deny the allegations.
