K-Pop Meets Heritage: NewJeans Rocks Historic Korean Palace!

joynews24 Views

NewJeans will be the first K-pop girl group to perform on a special stage at the Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace.

While 2024 Korea On Stage-New Generation event, hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration, co-hosted by the National Heritage Promotion Agency and KBS Korea Broadcasting, will be held on a special stage in front of the Heungnyemun Gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace on the 21st, NewJeans recently completed a pre-filming of their special stage at Geunjeongjeon Hall in Gyeongbokgung Palace.

Geunjeongjeon is a palace building where major national ceremonies were held during the Joseon Dynasty and is currently designated as a national treasure. Since the opening of Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1954, it has been rare for a public performance to be held in the Geunjeongjeon area, and the Cultural Heritage Administration is attracting attention by opening Geunjeongjeon specially for the stage of NewJeans, the leading K-pop group in Korea.

NewJeans will showcase a special “Cool With You” stage on the day of the performance. The highlight of this performance is the styling that shows the beauty of Korea, including the reinterpretation of traditional Korean Hanbok clothing. There will be Hanboks with a reinterpretation of the Dansam jeogori, suranchima, and daeranchima, which were specially made for this stage, and beoseon-style shoes, and goddess-like hair ornaments. In addition, it is expected to convey the greatness of national heritage and the status of K-pop at the same time by adding a fantastic performance that illuminates the night scene of Geunjeongjeon.

NewJeans said, “It’s a real honor to perform on stage at Geunjeongjeon in Gyeongbokgung Palace, a precious heritage of our country, and it will be a long-remembered memory. We hope that many people will take interest in our country’s national heritage through this opportunity.”

KBS stated, “NewJeans’ special stage at Geunjeongjeon will not only be an opportunity to introduce the beauty and value of national heritage but is also expected to serve as a stepping stone for Geunjeongjeon to promote Korean culture to the world.”

Meanwhile, NewJeans’ special stage at Geunjeongjeon can be seen through Korea On Stage, which airs on KBS 2TV at 11:25 p.m. on the 21st. The broadcast will be aired in 142 countries through KBS World.
