The iconic Home Alone mansion in Chicago has recently been listed for sale, creating quite a stir in the real estate market. According to ABC News, the house, famous for being the home of protagonist Kevin McCallister’s family in the movie, is now available on a real estate website. Located in Winnetka, an affluent suburb of Chicago, Illinois, the mansion is back on the market after 12 years. Priced at $5.25 million, the current owner purchased the property in 2012 for $1.585 million.
The listing information registered on the real estate agency Dawn McKenna Group website, which is mediating the transaction, indicates that the house spans 9126 square feet (847.8㎡) and features five bedrooms and six bathrooms. Built in 1921, it underwent a major renovation and expansion in 2018. The mansion now has a gym for a basketball court and a small movie theater.
Although the mansion’s exterior appears several times in the movie, TMZ quoted the film’s director saying that the scenes depicted inside the house were not filmed inside this mansion.
The agency stated, “Owning this brick mansion, famous for ‘Home Alone,’ will provide a rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic houses in American pop culture.”
According to ABC News, the accommodation-sharing platform Airbnb also used this house in December 2021 to offer customers a special one-night experience.
