Vegetarian vs. Meat-Eater Drama Unfolds Mid-Flight

Daniel Kim Views

A passenger’s decision to eat a burger next to a vegetarian has sparked an online debate.

On the 15, The Mirror reported about an incident that occurred on a flight when a passenger decided to eat a hamburger.

According to the article, the man was extremely hungry after his eight-hour flight and bought a burger beforehand. He stated that he had confirmed with the gate agent regarding onboard food regulations before purchasing the burger.

Once on board, he started eating his hamburger as soon as the passengers were allowed to use the seat tables. The issue happened when a vegetarian passenger sitting next to him revealed her discomfort. She claimed she does not eat meat or fried food, and the smell of his hamburger and fries was making her feel nauseous.

Despite her complaints, he continued eating his burger. He noted that the woman called over a flight attendant to verify the onboard food consumption rules. Even though the flight attendant confirmed that he was allowed to eat his food on the flight, the woman still gave him disapproving looks.

A man took the issue to the online internet community, Reddit, seeking opinions. The majority of users supported the man’s stance. One anonymous user stated, “If the woman wanted a journey that completely met her standards, she should have flown on a private jet.” Another sarcastically mentioned, “The woman should have booked a vegetarian flight.”

However, few users sympathized with the vegetarian’s perspective. One user wrote, “Obviously you are allowed to eat if you are hungry on a flight but you should also consider your surroundings.” Some even argued that the airline was to blame for this incident. The user who made this claim criticized the airline, saying, “This wouldn’t have happened if the airline provided better quality foods onboard.”
