According to reports by Japan’s Kyodo News on Friday, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) commenced the seventh release of nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean.

Same as the previous round, the seventh discharge will release about 7,800 tons of wastewater until July 16th.

“After collecting samples and analyzing them, we found that the concentration of radioactive substances such as tritium was below the standard,” TEPCO explained.

The ocean discharge of the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water began in August 2023. Since then, TEPCO has conducted a total of six rounds of discharges, releasing a total of around 47,000 tons of contaminated water.

In fiscal 2024 (from April 2024 to March 2025), TEPCO plans to discharge a total of 54,600 tons of contaminated water in seven rounds. Four rounds of discharge were carried out in fiscal 2023.
