Ozuna’s Home Run Dry Spell: Can He Turn It Around Before Season Ends?

Yonhap News

Marcell Ozuna of the Braves is in a slump, having gone hitless in four at-bats in the game against the Dodgers. He has not hit a home run in 25 games, and it has been 18 games since his last RBI. At one point, he was contending with Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers for the triple crown, but his performance has sharply declined.

Ozuna’s last home run was his 37th on August 21, putting him 10 home runs behind the leader, Ohtani. He hasn’t recorded an RBI since August 28, falling 11 RBIs behind the leader, Willy Adames. On Tuesday, he dropped to fourth place, surpassed by Manny Machado of the Padres.

In September, he had a batting average of .250 with zero home runs and RBIs. Until August, he was on pace to surpass last year’s totals of 40 home runs and 100 RBIs, but he unexpectedly fell into a slump at the end of the season.

David Ruiz, a journalist for FOX Sports, criticized Ozuna’s performance, questioning how it is humanly possible for him to have 17 consecutive games without an RBI while batting third. David O’Brien, a Braves correspondent for The Athletic, commented on X that Ozuna has run out of juice.

Among fans, harsh criticisms are pouring in: “Ozuna is not doing his job right” and “Marcell Ozuna’s fall should be studied. This man hasn’t hit a home run or an RBI in nearly 20 games. This is unacceptable.”
