A story emerged from an Indian news outlet where a 6-year-old girl escaped a potential sexual assault with the help of monkeys.
A man reportedly attempted assault by luring the girl into an empty house in the Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh but was thwarted by a group of monkeys.
According to the police, several monkeys appeared and charged at the man who attempted to assault the 6-year-old girl after they heard her scream.
Surprised by the monkey attack, the man reportedly threatened to kill the girl’s family if she told anyone as he fled the scene.
Nearby surveillance footage captured the man dragging the girl into the empty house. The girl’s parents stated, “The monkeys saved our daughter. If the monkeys hadn’t intervened, our daughter would be dead by now.”
A police spokesperson in Baghpat said they are investigating a monkey-related incident and are using CCTV to identify the suspect.
After the girl’s family reported the incident, authorities took swift action, officially registering the crime under several serious charges. These include sections 73 and 76 of the BNS, which pertain to assault and criminal violence against women, as well as attempting to strip a woman of her clothes through violent means. They also invoked the POCSO Act, which protects children from sexual offenses, ensuring that justice is pursued for this distressing case.
In Hindu culture, monkeys are revered as sacred beings because of the beloved half-monkey, half-human deity, Hanuman. However, as urban development infringes upon their natural habitats, monkey populations increasingly migrate into city environments. This shift has resulted in more frequent and often surprising encounters with groups of monkeys in urban areas.
