Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has become the second richest person in the world, overtaking Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index on Thursday, Zuckerberg’s net worth reached a record high of $206.2 billion, surpassing Bezos by $1.1 billion. However, he was $50 billion short of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the wealthiest person in the world.
This is the first time Zuckerberg has ranked second among the world’s wealthiest individuals. The recent surge in Meta’s stock price has significantly contributed to Zuckerberg’s wealth. He owns 13% of Meta, and his net worth increased by $78 billion this year. This is one of the largest gains among the top 500 richest people tracked by Bloomberg. Similarly, Zuckerberg climbed four spots in the global wealth rankings this year.
Meta’s stock closed at $582.77 on Thursday, a new all-time high. The stock’s recent rally, including a 23% jump after the company reported better-than-expected second-quarter results, has been a major driver of Zuckerberg’s wealth increase. Recent product launches, including the MetaAI feature on Facebook and the augmented reality (AR) smart glasses Orion, have also bolstered the company’s performance.
