Ketchup + Baking Soda = Here’s How They Can Save Your Home

Daniel Kim Views

We all know the drill: you grab some fast food, and suddenly, you’re drowning in ketchup packets. Instead of tossing them or letting them pile up, why not put those little packets to good use around the house? You’d be surprised at just how versatile ketchup can be, especially when combined with baking soda for an extra cleaning boost!

Sure, ketchup works well on its own, but mixing it with baking soda in a 1:1 ratio takes it to the next level.

Here’s how you can tackle tough stains and rust with this DIY cleaner.

1. Banish Burnt Marks and Rust from Pots

We’ve all had that moment where no matter how much scrubbing you do, those burnt or rust marks on your pots just won’t budge. Enter the ketchup solution!

Apply your ketchup and baking soda mixture (or just ketchup if that’s all you’ve got) directly to the problem areas. Let it sit for about 10 to 20 minutes, giving the acids in the ketchup time to work their magic.

Once the time’s up, simply wipe it down with a paper towel or damp cloth.

Voila! Those stubborn black marks are history; your pots look as good as new.

The difference is clear when you compare the areas cleaned with ketchup to those that weren’t. The left is the cleaned area, while the right is untouched. It cleaned perfectly, leaving everything looking great.

2. Tackle Rusty Knives and Metal

Rust spots on your knives or other metal surfaces? Ketchup to the rescue!

Just apply a layer of plain ketchup or the ketchup-baking soda mix to the rusted areas and let it sit for 10 to 20 minutes!

Afterward, wipe it off with a kitchen towel. The rust will come off with the ketchup. Even rust that was difficult to remove before came off easily with just a bit of ketchup.

3. Get Rid of Water Stains on Faucets

Water stains on faucets can be a pain, but ketchup can also fix them. Spread ketchup over the stained areas and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Rinse it off with water, and you’re done! Warm water works better than cold water to remove the ketchup more easily.

You’ll be left with a shiny, spotless faucet without all the scrubbing.
