Biden Approves $425M Security Package, Supports Ukraine’s 2025 Victory Plan

According to recent statements, the United States and Ukraine are ramping up efforts to end the war by next year.

In a statement on Wednesday, President Joe Biden reaffirmed U.S. support for Ukraine during a phone call with Urakine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The White House announced Biden’s approval of a new security package worth $425 million, which includes additional air defense capabilities, air-to-ground weapons, and armored vehicles.

In the coming months, the U.S. plans to deliver hundreds of air defense interceptors, dozens of tactical defense systems, large quantities of ammunition, and hundreds of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles.

During the call, Zelenskyy outlined a strategic plan for achieving victory in Ukraine, which both leaders agreed would be further discussed by their respective teams. Zelenskyy’s strategy revolves around five key components: securing an invitation to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), easing restrictions on long-range missile use, a comprehensive nuclear deterrence package, bolstering economic security through natural resources, and strengthening Ukraine’s military capabilities after the war.

In a recent address to the Ukrainian parliament, Zelenskyy expressed optimism about the plan’s potential to end the war by the close of 2024. “If we start moving with this concrete plan of victory now, we may manage to end the war no later than next year,” he said, emphasizing that success hinges on continued support from allied nations. “It depends on the partners … it certainly does not depend on Russia,” he added.

Zelenskyy also confirmed rumors regarding North Korea providing military support to Russia, labeling it as the second country to side with Russia in the Ukraine war. He described North Korea as part of a “coalition of criminals alongside Putin.”

Zelenskyy will present the victory plan at the European Union (EU) summit in Brussels this Thursday and Friday. Biden is scheduled to meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday to discuss support for Ukraine and the ongoing war situation.
