Brazil’s First Lady Rosângela da Silva, who fell victim to a social media hack on X (formerly Twitter) last year, took aim at Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO and owner of X, during a public event preceding the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. Musk retaliated, predicting their defeat in the next election.
The exchange occurred on Saturday during a panel discussion on social media regulation. After a commotion, da Silva jokingly remarked, “It’s probably Elon Musk,” before adding an F-bomb in English. She defiantly declared, “I’m not even afraid of you.” The video quickly spread across social media, prompting Musk to respond to related posts with a laughing emoji and a comment predicting that the current administration would lose the next election.
Last year, da Silva endured a significant ordeal when her X account was hacked. The perpetrators posted explicit misogynistic content and insulting remarks about President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
At the time, da Silva considered legal action against X. Local media speculated that her animosity towards Musk intensified following recent controversies surrounding a Brazilian Supreme Court order to block X.
As criticism mounted over the First Lady’s language, Lula addressed the issue at a separate event, stating without naming, “We don’t have to offend or curse anyone.”
Lula, who has been widowed twice, married Rosângela in 2022.
