Outfielder Juan Soto, formerly a free agent with the Yankees, has signed with the Mets for a record-breaking 15-year, $765 million contract—the largest in MLB history. In response, U.S. media outlet ClutchPoints recommended on Tuesday that the Yankees pursue a trade for Angels outfielder Mike Trout to fill the void left by Soto’s departure.

ClutchPoints highlighted that following the loss of a star player like Soto to the Mets, this moment is the perfect opportunity for the Yankees to fill the gap. They proposed acquiring Trout, a three-time MVP, who could help compensate for Soto’s absence. Trout, a New Jersey native, grew up near New York and admired former Yankees captain Derek Jeter. The report added that although Trout has a no-trade clause, it would likely not be difficult to waive it to join one of the most iconic sports franchises, especially a local team.

The article mentioned a potential trade package including pitcher Marcus Stroman, who went 10-9 in his first season; Spencer Jones, the Yankees’ second-ranked prospect and the top overall pick in the 2022 draft; and pitchers Clayton Beeter and Yoendrys Gomez. This trade proposal involves sending these four players in exchange for Trout.

Trout’s current contract, a 12-year, $426.5 million deal signed with the Angels in 2019, runs through 2030 when he’ll be 38. The Angels are on the hook for over $37 million annually for the duration of the contract. Although his recent injury history and high salary could pose challenges to a trade, the Yankees, disheartened by Soto’s departure, might see the acquisition of a superstar like Trout as the shake-up they need to re-energize the team and its fanbase.
