Toyota has introduced the Big Red Ute, an electric vehicle specially designed for the Australian children’s music group The Wiggles. Combining playful design with Toyota’s off-road heritage, this custom-built EV is more than just a promotional tool—it holds symbolic meaning. Developed by Toyota’s product planning and development department, the Big Red Ute also offers a sneak peek at the upcoming compact FJ Cruiser, further piquing interest in the model.

The classic exterior inspired by the Land Cruiser J70

The exterior of the Big Red Ute draws inspiration from the rugged Land Cruiser J70, blending practicality with a fun and youthful aesthetic. Its front end features LED headlights that can display images like eyes or hearts, adding a whimsical touch. The vehicle’s muscular design, highlighted by prominent fenders, large wheels, and underbody protection, signals its off-road potential. Despite its compact 3,120mm (122.8 inches) length, ideal for the stage, the Ute retains a strong presence. The 12-inch turbofan wheels, adorned with a rainbow theme and paired with thick tires, give the vehicle a distinct personality.

A safe and fun design for children

Inside, the Big Red Ute prioritizes safety and fun. The cabin features an exposed structure with seating for four, each equipped with a seatbelt connected to an oversized bulb for added security. The rear of the vehicle boasts an integrated bubble machine capable of producing up to 6,000 bubbles per minute—sure to capture the attention of young fans.

The Wiggles’ latest song inspires the vehicle’s name and design. The exterior colors reflect the Toyota Hilux featured in the song’s music video, further strengthening the connection to the group’s brand.

A fully functional EV for touring

Beyond its fun and playful features, the Big Red Ute is a fully functional EV. Powered by a 48V electric powertrain, it also includes an independent coil spring suspension and drum brakes. It is ideally suited for the stage with a top speed of 20 km/h (12.4 mph). Unveiled at The Wiggles’ concert in Melbourne on December 7, the Big Red Ute will accompany the group on their Australian tour and be part of their global tour schedule. This collaboration marks another unique partnership for Toyota, as the Big Red Ute symbolizes its ongoing engagement with younger audiences, building on The Wiggles’ decades-long global popularity.
