Mercedes-Benz’s new C-Class has been confirmed to be preparing a facelift model after spy shots were captured. The company is currently developing parallel electric and internal combustion engine models, and it seems that it is preparing an EV model while maintaining the gasoline C-Class model. This facelift model focuses on preserving the C-Class’s unique ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) identity while enhancing competitiveness through design and performance improvements.

Mercedes-Benz has not released specific information, but the spy shots show key changes. The prototype in the spy shots is camouflaged on the front and rear, but the changed front design is noticeable. It appears to have a new grille that takes up most of the front bumper area, and the air intake and LED headlights have been improved. In particular, the daytime running lights, which have been changed to a star-shaped design, reflect Mercedes’s new design identity.

A new camera on the side mirrors and an added sensor on the windscreen

The side view looks similar to the current C-Class. However, the side mirrors have dual LED strip turn signals and a new camera, which seems to have improved functionality. The rear of this facelift model does not notice any noticeable changes. However, the new graphics of the LED tail lights and the adjusted bumper are expected.

The front windscreen also has new sensors, likely supporting more sophisticated ADAS. The vehicle’s interior doesn’t appear to have changed much, but new materials have been used, and the MBUX infotainment system has been improved. The final production model may have even more significant changes.

Focus on emissions regulations and mild hybrid technology

The powertrain of the C-Class facelift seems to focus on improving efficiency and responding to stricter emission regulations. Accordingly, Mercedes-Benz will focus on the next-generation model’s mild and plug-in hybrid options. The AMG C63 S has been revealed to ditch the much-criticized 4-cylinder PHEV powertrain and introduce a mild hybrid V8 engine.

The facelift model is expected to be unveiled and sold in the spring of 2025. It appears designed to compete with the recently unveiled Audi A5 sedan and BMW’s Neue Klasse-designed 3 Series. The GLC and GLC Coupe are predicted to adopt similar designs and powertrains.

Will it recover from sluggish sales?
The C-Class EV is also in development

As for the C-Class, it was one of the best-selling vehicles, selling an average of more than 70,000 units per year just 10 years ago. However, in recent years, most consumers have chosen crossover vehicles such as the GLB-Class and GLC Class, and sales have been sluggish, with less than half of that. It remains to be seen whether the launch of this facelift model will help revive sales.

In addition to the refreshed C-Class, Mercedes-Benz is reportedly working on an electric sedan version. The upcoming C-Class AMG electric model is expected to be built on the MB.EA-Small platform, rather than the existing MMA platform. This electric model, part of Mercedes-Benz’s push into the EV market, is set to compete directly with popular vehicles like the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i4.
