In April, Honda introduced the Ye series of electric vehicles, which was explicitly aimed at the Chinese market. While the company has faced criticism for being slow to develop and launch electric vehicles globally, it seems to respond quickly in China, where electric cars already make up a significant portion of the market.

The production model of Honda’s mid-size electric crossover, the Ye P7, has now been revealed, following certification from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). First shown as a concept in April, the Ye P7 is one of three models Honda plans to roll out in China. As the company looks to strengthen its position in the growing electric vehicle market, all eyes are on whether the Ye P7 will help Honda make significant strides in this competitive sector.

Honda’s Strategic Move: Production Partnership with Guangzhou Automobile

Honda plans to manufacture the Ye P7 with its Chinese joint venture partner, Guangzhou Automobile. The Ye P7 features a body size of 4,750 mm (187.0 inches) in length, 1,930 mm (76.0 inches) in width, 1,625 mm (64.0 inches) in height, and a wheelbase of 2,930 mm (115.4 inches). It is expected to provide ample legroom space due to its long wheelbase compared to its length. The body weight is 2,305 kg (5,082 pounds), and 21-inch wheels are supplied as standard.

The exterior seems inspired by the Toyota Crown Sport and Ferrari Purosange. The front features a center positioning lamp. In addition, the headlamps are connected with horizontal and vertical daytime running lights. It seems that the long daytime running lights will create a futuristic look. In line with this, the headlamps have a sharp pincer-shaped shape.

The vehicle showcases a robust appearance with straight lines and maintains a distinct crossover shape

A wide air intake is placed at the bottom. A horizontal pattern is applied to the air intake with a sharp side, and it is processed in black to contrast with the body color. The front part features a simple composition without any large elements other than the grille, lamp, and air intake, and it is finished with the body panel. This shows the modern image of the electric vehicle.

On the side, the angular wheel arches and the straight, voluminous side skirts give off a solid feel. The roof and window belt lines also emphasize a straight feel, with the curved lines restrained. The roofline is applied in a low-hanging form typical of crossovers. A black line is added near the side skirts to add a point.

Tail lamp placement with thin lines
Dual motor four-wheel drive specification applied

For the rear, thin tail lights are placed like the front. Honda’s lettering is engraved on the band line connecting the tail lights. Black color details are added to the upper part of the bumper, and a horizontal reflector is placed at the bottom. A somewhat rough straight line is also applied to the rear. The appearance of the mass-produced model seems to have inherited elements of the previously released concept car, so it does not seem to be much different.

The interior has not been revealed, but it seems that most of the settings and function operations in the concept car are done through the center display. In addition, a dedicated digital cluster is placed at the top of the dashboard, and a simple interior layout is applied through the vertical center display. The powertrain has an electric motor that produces 201 horsepower in the front wheels and 268 horsepower in the rear wheels, operating as all-wheel drive. It is known that the battery is equipped with a CATL supplied, but specific specifications such as capacity have not been disclosed yet. According to Chinese media, the Honda Ye P7 is expected to be sold for 200,000 yuan (about $27,431).
