On Wednesday, a Netflix spokesperson dismissed reports suggesting that DiCaprio had finished filming for Squid Game Season 3, calling them baseless rumors.

A South Korean media outlet claimed that DiCaprio was set to appear in Season 3, stating that he had already wrapped his scenes—though his role was described as minor.

DiCaprio, known to be a huge fan of Squid Game, has long expressed admiration for the show. After Squid Game‘s historic six wins at the 2022 Emmy Awards, director Hwang Dong Hyuk revealed in a press conference that they had even joked about the possibility of a Hollywood actor joining the cast, saying, “We’ve talked about reaching out to DiCaprio, especially since he’s a fan of the show.”

Lee Jung Jae also made headlines during a red-carpet interview at the 2023 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards when he suggested that DiCaprio would be a perfect addition to the cast of Season 2.

In 2021, Lee Jung Jae attracted attention after being photographed with DiCaprio at the Los Angeles LACMA Art + Film Gala.

Later, during an appearance on the South Korean variety show You Quiz on the Block, Lee Jung Jae shared a memorable encounter with DiCaprio: “DiCaprio was the one who asked to take a photo with me. When he mentioned watching Squid Game, it wasn’t just casual small talk. He went into great detail about the themes, performances, music, direction, and ensemble cast. It was clear he really appreciated the show.”

Meanwhile, Squid Game Season 2 has become Netflix’s most-watched release in its debut week, racking up nearly 500 million viewing hours worldwide.

It not only topped the non-English TV category but also outperformed content in the English TV and film categories across all languages during the same period. Season 3 will be released later this year.
