BMW’s next-generation EV lineup generates significant excitement, particularly with the unveiling of a virtual i3 Touring model conceived by Sugar Design based on the Vision Driving Experience concept car. This model, part of the Neue Klasse initiative, highlights BMW’s commitment to electrification and innovation. Due to the positive reception from consumers, mass production is becoming more likely.

Design Innovation: i3 Touring Based on Neue Klasse

The virtual i3 Touring, which has become a hot topic worldwide, appears to be an extension of the Neue Klasse concept car model that appeared in late 2024. While based on the existing concept design, it features stylish LED headlights and taillights inspired by BMW’s latest prototypes. The front fascia, which leaves a powerful impression, differentiates it from existing BMW designs.

The most noticeable changes are in the front. The kidney grille and headlights are smaller than those of the existing Vision Neue Klasse concept car, creating a sleeker, more modern image. Although this may feel unfamiliar to some BMW fans, removing the recently controversial large kidney grille completes the design more.

The side design is also noteworthy. Instead of traditional side mirrors, a rear camera has been applied, and the door handles are designed as flush types that are not visible. These elements maximize aerodynamic performance while emphasizing the futuristic feel. The tail lights also reflect the design seen in recent BMW prototypes, and the dark tinting creates a more luxurious atmosphere.

High-Performance EV Transformation Ahead BMW Anticipates a Technological Leap

BMW is innovating its design and making a technological leap forward with its Neue Klasse lineup. The most notable part is the introduction of the 800V architecture. This will improve the charging speed by about 30% compared to the existing one, and it is expected to take only 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. This is expected to significantly alleviate consumers’ concerns about charging electric vehicles.

Driving performance is also expected to be competitive. According to some industry analysis, BMW’s next-generation electric vehicle could provide a driving range of up to 500 miles (about 805 km). If this figure is maintained in the mass-produced model, it will gain a clear advantage over competitors such as Tesla.

BMW plans to fully introduce Neue Klasse-based electric vehicles, starting with the second-generation iX3 later this year. Following this, an electric 3 Series model will be launched under the name i3, and the high-performance electric M3 is also likely to be included in the lineup. The automobile industry is focusing on the direction in which BMW’s electrification strategy will unfold in the future.
