Mitsubishi officially introduced the facelifted versions of its small minivans, the Delica D:2 and Delica D:2 Custom, on February 13. The updated models, which mark the first facelift since 2020, feature refreshed styling, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced safety features. The new models were available for purchase on the same day as the announcement.

Sleeker Design Aims to Broaden Appeal

The most noticeable updates are in the design. The base Delica D:2 features a redesigned front grille with horizontal chrome accents, giving it a more refined and upscale look. The Delica D:2 Custom, on the other hand, takes a bolder approach with a mix of black and chrome elements to create a more aggressive, three-dimensional appearance.

Mitsubishi has also introduced new body color options. The base model now comes in two-tone combinations, including Pure White Pearl and Mineral Gray Metallic. The custom model offers Caravan Ivory Pearl Metallic and Premium Silver Metallic/Mineral Gray Metallic.

Early consumer feedback has been mixed. Buyers seeking a classic minivan look gravitate toward the base model, while those wanting a more distinctive and aggressive design opt for the custom version.

Enhanced Powertrain and Improved Efficiency

The most significant improvement comes under the hood. Mitsubishi has fine-tuned the existing engine and continuously variable transmission (CVT) to deliver better fuel efficiency without compromising performance.

The updated Delica D:2 now achieves a fuel economy rating of 22.0 km/L (51.7 mpg) based on the WLTC standard, a key selling point for buyers prioritizing cost-effective and eco-friendly driving.

Advanced Safety Features Now Standard

Safety specifications have also been significantly enhanced. The latest driver assistance system, Mitsubishi e-Assist, has been upgraded, and a collision damage reduction brake system through Dual Sensor Brake Support II has been newly applied. In addition, the lane-keeping assist function is provided as a basic specification, and driving stability has been further enhanced by installing adaptive cruise control (including a stop and hold function), low-speed brake support, and a blind spot warning system.

Competitive Pricing and Strong Early Demand

Pricing for the facelifted Delica D:2 ranges from ¥2,101,000 ($14,280) to ¥2,643,300 ($17,966) for the base model and from ¥2,352,900 ($15,992) to ¥2,698,300 ($18,339) for the custom version. Mitsubishi dealers in Japan report strong initial interest, with current wait times for new orders estimated at around three to three-and-a-half months.
