MANILA, Philippines, July 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Yutong Bus (Yutong, SHA: 600066), a leading global manufacturer of commercial vehicles, recently conducted the C12PRO Fuel Saving Challenge on a 524-kilometer round-trip route from Manila to Baguio City. This key corridor in the Philippine passenger and tourism industry served as the testing ground for the C12PRO, a 12-meter long-distance luxury coach. The real-world trial aimed to assess the coach’s fuel efficiency while addressing three major challenges facing the country’s passenger transport sector: skyrocketing fuel prices, prolonged extreme heat over 35 degrees Celsius, and diverse road conditions.
The journey encompassed 100 kilometers of mountain roads, 360 kilometers of highways, and 64 kilometers of city streets. The bus carried 22 passengers and a 600-kilogram counterweight. Throughout the test, outside temperatures soared to 35 degrees Celsius, while the air conditioning maintained a comfortable 20 degrees Celsius inside, mirroring typical operating conditions in the region.
The C12PRO consumed a total of 143.55 liters of fuel, achieving an overall fuel efficiency of 3.65 km/liter. This represents a 12% improvement over its predecessor. Performance varied across different terrains, with the vehicle averaging 4.39 km/liter on highways, 3.60 km/liter in urban areas, and 2.97 km/liter on mountain roads.
Yutong has equipped the C12PRO with cutting-edge technology to boost fuel efficiency and performance. Its smart computing platform draws on real-world road conditions and map data from over 100 countries or regions. This proprietary database allows for rapid power configuration adjustments tailored to specific operating conditions, resulting in roughly 2% fuel savings.
Another Yutong innovation, the intelligent temperature control system, uses ambient temperature and load data to fine-tune engine cooling. Features like waste heat recovery and smart fan control enhance combustion and slash fuel use by an additional 2%.
At the heart of the C12PRO is a high-efficiency, low-speed, high-torque engine from a next-generation diesel platform. With a B10 life of 1.8 million kilometers and 1,900 Nm of torque, the powerplant delivers robust low-end performance while reducing fuel consumption by at least 3% in real-world conditions.
Yutong plans to expand its fuel-saving performance tests for the C-PRO series to the Americas, Africa, and other regions. These trials aim to further optimize product efficiency and help customers worldwide reduce costs and boost productivity.
