Renowned Korean violin virtuoso Chung Kyung-wha, now 77 and celebrating an astounding 58 years in her illustrious career, is gearing up for a highly anticipated recital tour this fall. Joining her on this musical journey is her long-time collaborator and “soulmate in music,” pianist Kevin Kenner.

The tour kicks off with a quartet of performances in Korea this September, followed by four concerts in North America come November. Korean audiences can catch the duo in Pyeongtaek on September 13, Goyang on September 21, Seoul on September 24, and Tongyeong on September 26.

Stateside, Chung makes her triumphant return to the hallowed halls of New York’s Carnegie Hall on November 7 – her first appearance at the iconic venue since her 50th debut anniversary concert in 2017. The North American leg also includes stops at Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts on November 2; McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, New Jersey on November 5; and Koerner Hall in Toronto, Canada on November 9.

Kenner, a laureate of the 1990 International Chopin Piano Competition where he clinched second prize (with no first prize awarded) and the Polonaise Prize, will accompany Chung throughout the tour. His expertise will also be put to use as a juror at the upcoming 2025 Chopin Competition.

Chung first catapulted to international stardom in 1967 after clinching the prestigious Leventritt Competition. Her meteoric rise saw her performing with major U.S. orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony, and even gracing a White House gala concert. As a trailblazing East Asian soloist in the Western classical music scene, Chung’s success garnered widespread acclaim and opened doors for future generations.

Over her storied career spanning decades, Chung has laid down recordings of most of the core violin repertoire with industry giants like Decca, RCA, Deutsche Grammophon, and EMI, amassing a discography that’s the envy of many. After a brief hiatus from performing due to injury in 2005, she made a triumphant comeback in 2010. More recently, in 2023, she delighted audiences by reuniting on stage with her brother, the esteemed conductor Chung Myung-whun, for a rare and intimate duo performance.

For those eager to catch the Seoul concert at Lotte Concert Hall, tickets are available ranging from 50,000 KRW (37.50 USD) to 140,000 KRW (105 USD).
